Delegate Attar believes it is critical that District 41 has a strong advocate in Annapolis.  She is not afraid to fight for more state funding for our communities, which will give our families more opportunities and choices.

Education
  • Delegate Attar is an advocate for free, quality education for our children from pre-K to community college.
  • Delegate Attar works to secure more education funding for Baltimore City students, higher pay for teachers, and more funds allocated for school infrastructure.
  • Delegate Attar works to create more training programs for our schools and preparing students for skilled jobs upon graduation by offering courses in high school for those who will not be going to college.
  • Delegate Attar works to obtain more funding for mental health and social services in our high schools and giving students help that they need for personal, family, or school crises.  Moreover, students often utilize the help of mental health and social service counselors to make choices for career or college.  But according to the Baltimore sun, Baltimore City has seen a 30% drop in school counselors in the last 3 years.  And while the recommended student-to-counselor ratio is 250-to-1, in Baltimore, it is more than 900 students per counselor.  We need to fund more counselors.

Drugs/Crime/Safety
  • Delegate Attar works to ensure there is sufficient funding for strong community policing to keep our neighborhoods safe.
  • Delegate Attar works to create more public-private partnerships for employment opportunities for former inmates.

Quality of Life

  • Delegate Attar works to find ways to bring good paying jobs to Baltimore City and securing higher wages for our workers.
  • Delegate Attar works to ensure affordable public transportation to enable people to easily get to work and school.
  • Delegate Attar works to give everyone proper healthcare coverage, including physical and mental care, as well as for pre-existing conditions.

Opioid Epidemic

The opioid crisis is an epidemic that Delegate Attar has been concerned about and focused on for many years.  It is an epidemic that touches the lives of many of us, and this epidemic does not discriminate.  She, and likely many of you, have personally seen the effects this epidemic has on families.

Delegate Attar has been working on combatting this crisis as a felony narcotics prosecutor in Baltimore City, and she works to prosecute drug dealers and reduce the amount of drugs that are on the street.  Unfortunately, the opioid crisis has taken an extreme and dangerous turn in our State with fentanyl coming into the picture. Fentanyl is extremely potent, and a lot more fatal than heroin.

Delegate Attar therefore is a member of the House Opioid Workgroup, which consists of a group of bipartisan legislators working to battle this crisis that affects the lives of so many of us.  She meets with other legislators and experts collaborating to find ways to properly battle this crisis.
